Roll The Bones Tour
Title:
Row The Boats
(2CD) Date: 11/7/91, St. Louis, MO Label: Cygnus Source: Soundboard Quality Rating: A/A+ |
Description: Another soundboard has surfaced from the "Bones" tour. For those who love the tour, this show is a must. There aren't many known recordings of this particular stop in St. Louis. The highs slide in and out a little during "Force Ten" but the remainder of the show is fairly solid...nice sound all around. On this tour the band dropped "YYZ" for the first time since the "Moving Pictures" tour. Also, "Ghost Of A Chance" was added to the setlist starting in December '91, therefore it's not played on this night. |

Description: Here is a very nice audience cam from the "Roll The Bones" tour. If you're a fan of this tour, you'll definitely want this boot as it has some great closeups and audio is excellent as well. |

Balloons By The Bay
(2DVD) Date: 1/29/92, Oakland, CA Label: Duley Digital Source: Audience Cam Quality Rating: A- |
Description: Rush played two nights in Oakland on this tour (with Primus opening) and this DVD documents the first night. This is not to be confused with the "Mirrors" show which is from the next night. The video was synced with the best audio source available to make this a fairly enjoyable show to watch. I wouldn't want to crank it too loud as the audio is a bit lacking in depth. The video quality is pretty clear and the filmer does a nice job of staying with the band with zooms. |

Big Money Meets The Big Apple Date: 12/7/91, New York, New York Label: Watchtower Source: Soundboard Quality Rating: A+ |
Description: The Watchtower release of this show is lower gen than "Garden Road" (see below) so it's the definitive version of this show in terms of quality. What's it's lacking is the encore...so between the two of them you can hear the complete show. The quality here is quite amazing...very crisp highs and punchy bass. |

Over The Europe Date: 4/29/92, Stuttgart, Germany Label: Metal Crash Source: Audience Quality Rating: A+ |
Description: I believe this was my first Rush boot ever...stupidly, I gave it away because it was an audience boot. However, about 10 years have passed since that fiasco and I have it again. It's easy to dismiss audience boots as inferior to soundboards, but after listening to many, many boots over the years I've come to realize that audience shows have an appeal all their own. A well recorded audience boot can often rival if not sound superior to a soundboard show. Soundboards, if recorded incorrectly, can sound very dry, without dynamics and, quite frankly, boring. With an audience show you have the ability to capture what it was like to actually be at the show. This boot is a perfect example of that. Not only is there an excellent amount of highs, mid-range and low-end, but it's all very nicely balanced. All the instruments can be heard and the performance is extremely tight. I highly recommend this show to any fan. |

Description: Ah, another "Bones" board. Sound wise, this isn't quite as sharp as "Vital Dreams", but it's a damn good show. Except for a few minor flubs by Alex and Neil the performance is pretty solid. A must for any collection. |

Title:
Atmospheric Date: 5/3/92, Rotterdam, Holland Label: Crystal Cat Records Source: Audience Quality Rating: A+ |
Description: Of all the audience boots from this tour, this one is hands-down the best. It would even probably rank as one of the best all-time audience boots, it's that good. You can hear all the instruments clearly in this superb performance. And that's not something to forget either...just because a soundboard exists from this tour, don't assume it's better than an audience recording. For instance, "Mirrors" is a soundboard, yet is not as good as this show here. The performance here is much more spirited, yet it's a shame more fans won't hear it because they automatically shun audience recordings....and that's a shame. If you're a Rush fan, especially one that's tended to shy away from audience shows, at least get this one and see what you think. |

Dem Bones (1DVD) Date: 12/12/91, Albany, NY Label: AppleJack Studios Source: VHS Cam Quality Rating: A Video Preview |
Description: The audio quality here is excellent for an audience source. The video quality is actually quite good as well...the only problem is that the camerawork is a bit shaky. However, the taper does a good job of staying focused on the action. If you're a Bones tour fan, here's your souvenir. |

Title:
Vital Dreams Date: 6/14/92, Charlotte, NC Label: Digital Reproductions Source: Soundboard Quality Rating: A+ |
Description: Wow, what a show here! This has got to be not only the best sounding Rush boot, but one of the best boots I've ever heard period. What can I say it's a true soundboard that comes just a hair shy of official release quality. That small hair would be my one small problem with this and that's the guitar sound. It is a bit buried and could be much louder. Don't worry, you can hear the guitars, it just would have been so much better if they were more in the mix. Alex does turn in some nice guitar work on "Vital Signs", which is outstanding here. As a matter of fact, another reason why this is such a great show is because it was the 2nd leg of the tour which also featured "The Analog Kid", "The Trees". Unfortunately, this meant "The Pass" had to go. Oh, and I should also mention that this boot does not include the encore. That's right, no "La Villa/Anthem/Barchetta" medley...but really the sound quality of this show wards off any doubts this is still a must-have in any Rush fans' collection. |

Cold Flames Date: 6/30/92, Long Island, NY Label: Classical Shots on CD Source: Audience Quality Rating: A+ |
Description: Now, this is one awesome audience recording. You can hear everything, including the thumping bass drums which makes you feel like you're there. This show is taken from the 2nd leg of the tour which means no "Pass" but you do get "Vital Signs", "The Trees" and "Analog Kid". One sidenote about "The Trees"....there's this part where you can hear dogs barking and birds chirping...then all of a sudden you hear this loud cow noise! Pretty funny. They may have had that in other shows but on this recording it stuck out (to me at least). This show should not be overlooked if you're digging around for some "Bones" shows. It's easy to overlook with all the excellent soundboards from this tour out there...but soundwise, "Cold Flames" is not too far behind. |

Run Faster Date: 4/17/92, London, UK Label: Scarred Records Source: Soundboard Quality Rating: A+ |
Description: If you're familiar with the boot "Run From The Fans" then you were probably disappointed by the way it "ran slow". Well, this one "runs faster", hence the title. This is an exact copy of "Run From The Fans" except it has corrected the speed problem. This little bit of tweaking has uncovered an excellent performance from the Bones tour. I wish it was the whole show, but we do get a great sampling of tunes, old and new, especially the rare live "Ghost Of A Chance" and "Superconductor". |

Title:
Mirrors Date: 1/30/92, Oakland, CA Label: Oxygen Source: Soundboard Quality Rating: A+ |
Description: Like Mystic Dreams from the Power Windows tour, this is another astounding recording, without the aid of FM broadcast, VHS or Laserdisc dubbing. Unlike Mystic Dreams, this is the whole show from the Roll The Bones tour in Oakland. When you get a bootleg, this is the one you always wish for...excellent sound and an entire show. We get great live versions of some unreleased live songs like "Where's My Thing?", "The Pass", "Superconductor" and "Ghost Of A Chance". Plus, it's always nice to hear an updated version of "Xanadu" again, not to mention the barrage of classics in the closing Medley..."2112", "La Villa", and "Anthem" to name a few...a must have for Rush collectors. Beware of another boot called "Rush n Roulette 92". That recording is from the same show, but far inferior to Mirrors. As I said with Mystic Dreams, this boot spoiled me soundwise as it was among the first Rush boots that I ever owned. It is also a benchmark for the Quality Ratings you see on this site. |
