- SARStock (1DVD). 7/30/03, Toronto, Canada. Here's a superb video of their complete set at Sarstock. From what I understand, the Rolling Stones own the rights to the entire show, so someone from their camp may have leaked it. This is extremely high quality, folks. It's either a direct copy from the master or 1st gen at the most. The band put on an energetic, yet shorter show than usual but there's alot here. Songs include "Back In Black", "Thunderstruck", "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap", "The Jack", "Whole Lotta Rosie", "If You Want Blood You Got It", "Let There Be Rock", "Highway To Hell" and more. As a bonus on this DVD you also get the entire 35 minute set from Rush. The full set from the Rolling Stones is available separately. Video Preview

The quality here is great all around as it's culled from 3 early broadcasts (some may be recent rebroadcasts). This is classic sfuff. Songs include "Live Wire", "Sin City", "Problem Child", "Whole Lotta Rosie", "Let There Be Rock", "TNT", "Rocker" and more. Video Preview

- Countdown Live (1DVD). Tokyo, Japan. 12/31/89. This show is sourced from an out of print Japanese laserdisc, so quality is top notch. I'm not a huge Bryan Adams fan but I do like some tunes such as "Cut's Like A Knife", "It's Only Love", "Somebody", "Run To You" and "Heat Of The Night" (all included here). This is a good time in his career, right before he began spitting out ballads and his music turned to liquid stool. Bryan and his band are rocking hard and playing tight...an amazing performance. Fans will enjoy! This show takes place on New Year's Eve and must have been part of a larger show. There's a bonus video taken from the same night, that features Adams along with Huey Lewis, Don Henley and more performing "Shake Rattle And Roll". Video Preview
Quality Rating: A+- Belgium '88 (1DVD). Belgium, 7/28/88. Bryan Adams became more popular in Europe and Asia thanks to his touring behind the album "Into The Fire". This appearance in Belgium was one of the last dates on that tour and recorded for an upcoming live album ("Live Live Live"). The video was never released officially, but it was broadcast and that is what you see here. Songs include "Somebody", "Run To You", "Heaven", "Summer Of 69" and more. Approx 40mins. Video Preview

- Tokyo '99 (1DVD). Osaka Dome, Osaka, Japan, 12/31/99. Here's a Japanese broadcast with excellent quality all around. This show took place on New Year's Eve 1999 so you know everyone's in a good mood and partying down. The set it filled with classics, hits and some new songs and played very enthusiastically. Songs include "Same Old Song And Dance", "Let The Music Do The Talking", "Mama Kin", "Dude (Looks Like A Lady)", "Chip Away At The Stone", "Pink", "Eat The Rich", a kick ass "Love In An Elevator", "Living On The Edge" and much more. You see what goes on during the commercial breaks as well as many songs that did not make the broadcast version of the show. Songs include "Monkey On My Back", "Big Ten Inch Record", "Walkin' The Dog", "Last Child" and more. Artwork | Video Preview

- Video Anthology (1DVD). Here you get to see the band from start to finished. Included here are lots of videos and even "Bands Reunited" where VH1 gets the original band back for one more round. Of all the "Bands Reunited" shows, this was my favorite. Guitarist Paul Reynolds and bassist Frank Maudsley show why there were so integral to the band's early sound (plus they are just interesting characters). In their reunited live performance, Reynolds turns in some excellent guitar work. But don't get all misty eyed just yet. Soon after the reunion, frontman Mike Score decided once again to part ways with his old band mates (including his estranged brother, Ali) and opted to reform the band with no talent balloon heads. Their embarrassing appearance on NBC's "Hit Me Baby One More Time", where they competed with other washed up 80's bands, is included here and is akin to pulling the plug on a coma patient. Quality Rating: A-/A+- Brixton 1983 (1DVD). This was taken from an early 80's BBC broadcast and the quality shows. While it's definitely watchable and the sound just okay, I would only recommend this for major fans of the band. For a much better DVD, I would recommend the Germany '83 show. Songs here include "Space Age Love Song", "Wishing" and more. Video Preview
Quality Rating: B+- Germany 1983 (1DVD). This appears to be from a rare German broadcast. The picture is excellent and sound is very good. Probably the best quality footage of the original lineup that I've seen. All the essentials are here, including Mike Score's gravity defying hairdo and Paul Reynolds's searing guitars. Overall, the band plays very well and are captured in peak form. The set runs about 30mins and includes "I Ran", "Wishing", "Space Age Love Song", "Standing In The Doorway" and more. Video Preview

- Headlines And Deadlines (1 PAL DVD). This is their out of print (oop) 1991 DVD of videos. If you like A-ha you'll want this for sure as it has most everything you'd need including videos for "Take On Me", "Cry Wolf", "Early Morning", "Train Of Thought", "The Sun Always Shines On TV" and more. Quality Rating: A+- Live In South America (1DVD). 1993. Here is a great transfer from laserdisc of this long out of print concert which documented their tour of South America in 1993. The setlist is great as it contains all their great tunes including "Cry Wolf", "I Call Your Name", "Scoundrel Days", "Early Morning", not to mention the hits "Take On Me" and "The Sun Always Shines On TV". With Aha having already released many of their video titles on DVD, it's a wonder if this one will ever be released. A must for Aha fans! Artwork | Video Preview.

- London '89 (1 PAL DVD). London. 5/25/89. Here's a show that was recorded off British ITV on the band's first tour. It's so rare to see this band at all because they came and went without any fanfare. The band features ex-Police drummer, Stewart Copeland, and legendary jazz bassist Stanley Clarke taking a stab at pop music. On their two studio albums the results were refreshing and enjoyable, especially thanks to the gifted vocalist Deborah Holland, who's voice is so strong and clear. On the album they used various guest artists, including Steve Howe (Yes), Peter Haycock (Climax Blues Band), Jackson Browne and Glen Phillips (Toad The Wet Sprocket). In the live situation, those guests are sorely missed. The guitarist shown here is more flashy than technical and all the guitar parts lose their appeal, unfortunately. Deborah Holland, a newcomer to the music business, doesn't have much stage presence and, vocally, she's much stronger in the studio. The veterans shine here - Copeland is maniacal behind the drums and Clarke is expert on the bass. There's a couple of instrumental jams here that are worth noting. Still, if you're a big fan of this band, you'll want to check this out due to it's rarity. Songs include "There's A Spy", "Someday We'll Understand", "Firing Up The Sunset Gun", "Someone To Come Home To". Video Preview
Quality Rating: A-- Various TV (1DVD). Here is a collection of TV appearances and promotional clips for this unfortunately short lived Stewart Copeland project. This band also features jazzman Stanley Clarke on bass and amazing vocalist Deborah Holland (who was a piano teacher before this gig). I always loved their two albums, which went largely unnoticed in the early 90's. There's not a lot of footage here, but it's probably all anyone would need. It starts out with the band performing "There's A Spy In The House Of Love" on David Letterman in 1989. There's another local access type show which features Deborah on their live request segment. She answers questions about the band then call Stewart Copland, who's in London at the time. Another strange segment features Stewart and Deborah being interviewed by Max Weinberg at this restaurant. Then there's footage from a VH1 show called "New Visions Rock" where they perform with Nile Rodgers on guitar ("As Soon As The Sun Goes Down"). Also included are videos for "Spy In The House Of Love" (featuring Steve Howe on guitar /not shown in video) and "Rose Colored Glasses", which appeared on their second album. Video Preview

Arcadia (also see Duran Duran)
- Video Album (1DVD). During a short hiatus in late 1984 and early 1985, three Duran Duran members — lead singer Simon LeBon, keyboardist Nick Rhodes, and drummer Roger Taylor — formed Arcadia, a short-lived splinter group which offered an artier version of Duran Duran's new wave synth pop. Arcadia released their only album, "So Red the Rose", in 1985, just after Duran Duran's popularity reached a peak. The album became a hit based on name recognition alone, as did the single "Election Day". After their brief moment of success, the members of Arcadia re-formed Duran Duran without guitarist Andy Taylor. This is a Japanese laserdisc rip of their out of print video album. Interviews also included. As a special bonus, there's about an hours worth of TV performances and interviews. Fans will love it! Video Preview

- In Visible Silence Live (1DVD). London, 1986. After watching this disc the first time I came away very impressed. If you're an Art Of Noise fan, you must have this. If you're a passing fan (like me) you will probably still find this interesting. Art of Noise were initially members of producer Trevor Horn's studio band. Horn never cared for singing live and probably got hit with one too many potatoes during Yes' Drama tour, where he inherited the role of Jon Anderson. Whatever the reason, Horn isn't here. However, members Anne Dudley and JJ are present with a talented band around them. The opener, "Close (To The Edit)", is amazing to watch as the band grooves underneath unlikely sounds and effects. There's also alot of psychedelic visual effects which, amazingly, don't hamper the viewing. A possible warning to pet lovers: I gave this to my friend (Capt. Cheese) and he says the Schnauzer dog went bonkers when it came on. Songs include "Paranoimia", "Beat Box", "Moments In Love", "Back Beat". Video Preview

- Time Capsule For A Future Generation (1DVD). This is a Laserdisc version of the VHS tape released under the same title. This contains the majority of their videos up to the year 1998. The quality is excellent with the exception of some slight glitches during the last song. The bands official website states that there are no plans for an official release of this because the record company holding the rights has shown no interest after years of pitching the project. Songs include "Rock Lobster", "Songs For A Future Generation", "Roam", "Girl from Ipanema Goes to Greenland", "Channel Z", "Love Shack", a great live video for "Cosmic Thing" and more. Video Preview

- Manassas '95 (1DVD). 6/24/95, Manassas, VA. Here's a proshot from the band just as the wheels were coming off yet again ("Company Of Strangers" tour). After Brian Howe (who replaced Paul Rodgers) left the band they hired vocalist Robert Hart and really dived into bland land. This guy has all the talent of a pet rock and even mistakenly says "Goodnight!" after the first song. The band plods through mostly classic tunes such as "Rock And Roll Fantasy", "Ready For Love", "Down And Dirty", "Shooting Star", "Good Lovin' Gone Bad", "Feel Like Making Love" and more. Foreigner's Rick Wills is on bass. This really is the band at their lowest point before Paul Rodgers would rejoin them and resuscitate their careers. For diehards only.

- $2 Bill Concert (1DVD). 6/9/04. Las Vegas, Nevada. This is taken from an MTV2 broadcast of their 5 Boros tour. Both picture and sound quality are superb, not to mention the performance is killer. This has got to be the best Beasties show I've ever seen. These guys rap like 3 machine guns firing and the fresh beats keep coming. Simply, they are amazing to watch and when it ends you'll want more. Guess what? There is more. The bonus features on this DVD are excellent and include their appearances on David Letterman '04, MTV's 2004 Movie Awards and even a "To The 5 Boros" special on MTV. The Letterman performance is very cool as they begin by emerging from a subway station in Manhattan and rap "Ch-Check It Out" all the way back to NBC studios as the camera follows. If that's not enough, you'll also find more extras...videos for "Ch-Check It Out", "Intergalactic" and "So What'cha Want". If you're a Beastie Boy fan you must have this. A treasure. Video Preview
Quality Rating: A+- Rockpalast '98 (1DVD). 6/20/98. Loreley, Germany. This is a very different show than the one from 2004 above. Here the band is actually performing with instruments. While their not known for being consummate musicians, they do get around their instruments well enough to make it interesting. There's about 30 songs performed here from "Sure Shot" and "Pass The Mic" to "Intergalatic" and "Sabotage" it's all here. They also play a few tunes from their instrumental album.

- Let It Be (2DVD). Here is a copy of the long out of print movie that documented the final Beatles album and performance. The band decided to setup a studio, jam for a while and work up some new tunes for a concert, all to be filmed at the same time. What balls...how many bands or record companies would do such a thing today? The concert footage, which rounds out the main feature of this collection, is the infamous "Rooftop Concert" which was eventually shut down by the pork due to a noise complaint. You get lots of insights into the Beatles songwriting processes and contrasting personalities, which were clearly on the brink here. The band would breakup shortly afterwards. A bonus DVD has documentary footage on the making of this release. Quality is generally excellent all around. There was supposed to be an official release of this movie, however, it seems to be in limbo now. Artwork

- Live in Tokyo (1DVD).10/9/99, Tokyo, Japan. Here is an excellent Japanese broadcast from the band's final tour supporting their third and last album, "The Unauthorized Biography of Reinhold Mesner". Any fan of the band will be blown away by this performance. Songs include "Army", "Mess", "Hospital Song", "Fair", "Narcolepsy", "Regrets", "Underground", "Don't Change Your Plans", "Song For The Dumped", "Missing The War" and more. Their final album hinted at what would come later in Ben's solo career and it's a shame this three piece don't perform live any longer. Superb musicianship and original songs - hard to believe three guys can make all this noise and beauty in one show. Video Preview

- US Festival '82 (1DVD). 9/4/82. Glen Helen Park, San Bernardino, California. Pat and guitar hubby, Neil Geraldo, took to the stage on Day 2 of this 3 day festival and delivered one rocking set. When it comes to early Benatar I still prefer the official "New Haven" release but this comes in a very close second. Neil is one underrated guitarist who confidently rips through one original lick after another. Pat's in fine voice and playing with her best live band lineup. Song include "You Better Run", "Treat Me Right", "Get Nervous (Anxiety)", "Little Too Late", "Promises In The Dark", "The Victim", "Heartbreaker", "Hit Me With Your Best Shot", "Hell Is For Children" and more. - Wam Bam - Live In Japan (1DVD). Japan, 1987. This is transferred from a long out of print laserdisc of Berlin, just before they called it quits. Only three of the original lineup remain. Soon they would wake up and realize the departed members had a good idea by leaving the band. Songs include "The Metro", "No More Words", "Will I Ever Understand You" and more.
Quality Rating: A- US Festival '83 (1DVD). Glen Helen Regional Park, CA, Memorial Day Weekend, May 1983. Unless you really like Berlin this is more spectacle than anything. Their performance leaves little to be desired but the cheesy 80's keyboards and makeup make this a nice little trip back to '83. Songs include "Sex", "Metro" and more.

- Stop Sellafield (1DVD). The "Stop Sellafield" concert was held in the Summer of 1992 by Greenpeace in order to publicize the environmental havoc being wreaked by the Sellafield Nuclear plant in England. Greenpeace's ultimate goal was to have the plant closed. All proceeds from the benefit went directly to Greenpeace. Performers included U2, Public Enemy, Big Audio Dynamite II and Kraftwerk. This DVD features performance highlights mixed in with commentary about the cause at hand. The performance footage here is great, I just wish there was more. For instance, seeing B.A.D. II here is great, but you only get a few minutes. By the way, if anyone out there is trading high quality B.A.D. video shows please let me know as I'm on the hunt for them. Artwork

- Rockpalast (1DVD). 4/15/86, Germany. The video quality on this show is pretty clean while the audio has more hiss than I'm used to hearing on these Rockpalast shows. Black Crowes & Jimmy Page (see also Led Zeppelin, The Firm, Page/Plant)
- Live At Jones Beach (1DVD) 7/10/00. Long Island, NY. If you like the shows that Jimmy Page did with the Black Crowes, you'll need this one. While the Greek Theatre shows were very nice, they featured a single, tripod audience cam. This one from Jones Beach, is straight from the in-house feed meaning you get multiple camera angles and better overall sound. There's 23 songs here including "Wanton Song", "Hots On For Nowhere", "No Speak No Slave", "Ten Years Gone", "In My Time Of Dying", "Remedy", "Bring It On Home", "She Talks To Angels", "Out On The Tiles" and more. Quality Rating: Video A ; Audio A+- Live At The Greek 2nd (1DVD). 10/19/99. The Greek Theatre, Berkeley, CA. Here's a 1 cam audience shot synched with board audio to make one enjoyable show. The Crowes do a fine job playing all these great Zeppelin tunes, particularly Chris Robinson who handle's Plant's vocals with ease and then some. Steve Gorman is fun to watch too as he vigorously pounds the drums throughout. Jimmy Page is having a good time and his playing is seemingly his most inspired since his days in Zeppelin. Songs include "Custard Pie", "What Is And Should Never Be", "In My Time Of Dying", "Remedy", a fantastic "Out On The Tiles", "Lemon Song" and more.
Quality Rating: Video A+ ; Audio A- Live At The Greek 1st (1DVD). 10/18/99. The Crowes and Page played two nights at the Greek Theatre and the boots that commemorate each event are equal in their approach, video and sound quality. The video footage is taken from a steady audience cam while the audio is a mix of both an audience source and a soundboard recording. Overall, a very enjoyable show, much like the second night. Pop either show into your DVD player and you probably won't know which show is which. Songs include "Wiser Time", "Hey Hey What Can I Do", "Shapes Of Things", "Sick Again", "The Lemon Song". There are slight changes in the setlist between shows.

Black Sabbath (see also Ozzy Osbourne)
- Download Festival (1DVD). Donnington, England, 6/11/05. Here's a proshot, master copy (w/timecode) of their performance at the Download Festival in 2006. Because of this the quality is top notch throughout. Another bonus to this show is that Ozzy is in rare form. He appears coherent and really into the show...great to see so late in his career! Now, he does let out some really bum notes here and there but at least he's not a staggering, blabbering mess. If you're a fan of Sabbath you must have this one. Video Preview
Quality Rating: A+- Star Lake '99 (1DVD). 6/12/99, Pittsburgh, PA, Star Lake Amphitheatre. Ozzy running across the stage while rambling out of tune pretty much sums up this one. The band doesn't play badly, but Ozzy seems out of place in the band he once launched to legendary status. The sound is from a very good board synched with an in-house video feed. Songs include "War Pigs", "NIB", "Electric Funeral", "Snowblind", "Iron Man", "Paranoid", "Fairies Wear Boots" and more. Video Preview

Black Sabbath and Blue Oyster Cult teamed up to play a sold out show in NYC and this tour film highlights performances from each band (at varying times in their career). To add another twist, this film was produced by George Harrison! He must have been out of ganja to make a decision like this. Blue Oyster Cult were riding a wave of popularity brought on by "Don't Fear The Reaper" and more recently, "Godzilla". "Burning For You" was yet to come. BOC plays fairly well here, although the song selection leaves little to be desired with pointless covers of "Born To Be Wild" and "Roadhouse Blues" thrown in there. Still, Buck Dharma plays a mean guitar. On the Sabbath side, Ozzy was gone and in was Ronnie James Dio. This title is now out of print. Artwork | Video Preview

Here is the definitive version of this show with the new master having been supplied by a fellow trader. He found the beta tapes of the original Yorkshire TV broadcast literally at the back of a cupboard while looking for photos for his best man's speech. They had been sitting there for at least 15 years and probably explains while the tapes were in such good condition. The Sabbath fan community went apeshit upon seeing the newly found footage as previous versions have been pretty good at best. Interestingly, the betamax machine used to transfer this died right after the transfer was completed. The quality here is much improved with a clearer picture and fuller sound. Video Preview

- Crossroads (1DVD). Hammerstein Ballroom, New York, August 2005. Here the band perform with country music newcomers, Sugarland, on "Crossroads", a program designed to pair up rock/country bands for a one night only performance. Actually, Sugarland are the newest band to appear on the show to date. Okay, I got this one for my wife as it's not something I would normally go for, especially with country music being about half the show. Bon Jovi do a good job, even with their new material, which seems on par with most anything they've done before. Jennifer Nettles, lead singer for Sugarland, actually did some vocals on Bon Jovi's latest album, "Have A Nice Day", which is probably the reason they paired up for this show. I could do without any of the Sugarland material, but Jovi's stuff turned out well. Songs include "Have A Nice Day", "Livin' On A Prayer", "Wanted Dead Or Alive", "You Give Love A Bad Name", "Who Says You Can't Go Home" and more. Artwork

- Boston Gardens (1DVD). 4/5/68. Boston, MA. Here is the historic James Brown concert that was broadcast on WGBH in Boston, Massachusetts less than 24 hours after the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boston mayor Kevin White considered canceling all public events, including the James Brown concert, due to violence that was breaking out in cities across the country. White was told canceling the Brown show may even spark a riot. The mayor relented and then persuaded PBS station WGHB to broadcast the event in an effort to keep blacks at home instead of on the street. James Brown soothed the grieving audience by dedicating the show to the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and delivered an electrifying performance. Brown introduced the mayor who urged the audience to keep cool. At one point the fans go wild and rush the stage. The police move in to restore order but Brown assures them that he can handle it. James then pleads with the crowd to return to their seats and says this is not how black people should act. A very powerful and emotional performance. Songs include, "Get It Together", "There Was A Time", "I Got A Felling", "Bewildered", "When a Man Loves a Woman", "Cold Sweat", and much more. The picture and soon are pretty good for it's age. Not something you will want to crank too loudly. Of course, I'm always looking for better quality versions of this show. Video Preview

David Byrne (also see Talking Heads)
- Volume 1 (1DVD). Here's a compilation of 3 live performances. The majority of this disc is his debut appearance on Austin City Limits in 2001. This energetic set includes new material along with Talking Heads classics, many performed with striking string arrangements. On several of the Talking Heads most memorable songs, such as “Once in a Lifetime” and “Nothing But Flowers” Byrne sticks with a driving four-piece featuring extraordinary percussionist Mauro Refosco to fuel the funk-rock charge. An Austin-based string ensemble Tosca joins him on stage for several songs including “The Great Intoxication.” The refined grace of the strings combined with earthy percussion is a surprising yet exhilarating hybrid. On “Naďve Melody” the string and rhythm sections meld together to form a real nice groove. Byrne caps off the evening with a rendition of the Whitney Houston hit “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” before bring down the house with another Talking Heads classic “Life During Wartime”. There's also his appearance on the Jools Holland show with 3 performances and then a classic Heads clip from The Old Grey Whistle Test ("Psycho Killer"). The quality on the Heads clip is perfect and probably from a master source. If you're a fan of Byrne, this is a must! Video Preview

- A Slick Music Product (1DVD). The Great American Music Hall, San Francisco, CA 9/804. This originally aired on DirectTV as a freeview to subscribers. I didn't bother recording it at the time because I figured it would be on DVD at some point. Well, over 2 years later the DVD was just never there. However, leave it to "the underground" scene for making it available to fans. Here you'll find a fantastic live performance mixed with band interviews. There were some videos featured in the original broadcast but the author decided to leave them out to avoid any copyright infringement issues. The guys are playing very well here and fans will find this is a must have! Songs include "The Distance", "Never There", "I Will Survive", "No Phone", "Comfort Eagle", "Love You Madly" and more. - CJ 2 (1DVD). 3/18/78 Ontario Motor Speedway, Ontario, California. California Jam was a rock music festival concert held in California. It attracted over 500,000 fans and was one of the last of the original wave of rock festivals, as well as one of the most well-executed and financially successful, and presaged the era of media consolidation and the corporatization of the rock music industry. Unlike other rock festivals such as Woodstock, the concert was not planned for release as a film or sound recording, however several portions of it were broadcast live on the ABC television network, which was also a sponsor of the show. The audio portion of the show was also broadcast in stereo on FM radio stations, an early example of simulcasting. Several performances from the show were eventually released on CD and Video, both in bootleg and authorized form. Songs include "Ebony Eyes" (Bob Welch w/Stevie Nicks), "Big Ten Inch" (Aerosmith), "Baracudda" (Heart), "Feels Like The First Time" (Foreigner), Santana and more. This is sourced from a broadcast and very close to the master, as quality is excellent for it's age. 55min. Video Preview

The quality is perfect coming from a rebroadcast of the segments on Comedy Central and is probably taken right from a satellite source. It starts off with the cheeseball "Can't Stop Falling Into Love" (which even Rod Stewart turned down) but includes some classic stuff such as "Tonight It's You", "Never Had A Lot To Lose", "If You Want My Love", "Surrender" and "I Want You To Want Me" from Budokan, a great live version of "Ain't That A Shame" from television, plus a nice extended "Dream Police" video which also features "Way Of The World" and "Voices". Quality Rating: A+- Rockpalast '83 (1DVD). Germany, 10/15/83. Here is a rare live period from the band when founding bassist Rick Petersson was replaced with Jon Brant. The band didn't suffer too much as they came up with some great tunes such as "If You Want My Love" and "I Can't Take It" (both here). Jon could surely hold his own on the bass and this performance is proof as it's an excellent show. Songs include "She's Tight", "On Top Of The World", "Stop This Game", "Surrender", "Dream Police" and more. There is also a bonus clip of them on American Bandstand. Artwork | Video Preview

The band here is on their "All Shook Up" tour, which is right before bassist Tom Petersson left for a few years. The live version of "I Want You To Want Me" performed here not only became a huge hit for the band, it's considered THE version of the song. This show had a magical energy that infected fans worldwide, a great show. It's just a matter of time before this show is released on DVD with top notch picture and sound as evidenced by the clips in "Every Trick In The Book" above. The video quality here is great for it's age. The audio is pretty good too, although the screaming girls get a bit old after a while. - In Australia (2DVD). 2/4/07, Melbourne, Australia. Here is what's called a "screenshot" from Clapton's 2007 tour. This means the audience camera was fixed mostly on the overhead screen and not directly on the stage. That being said, the video is quite good (sometimes as little dark when the lights go down) as you get to pretty much see the in-house video feed throughout the whole show. The audio, while flat, does allow you to hear most everything going on and is fairly well balanced. I would recommend this to diehards and hope an official DVD comes out from this tour. This is a great show and Clapton sports a terrific band including Doyle Bramhall, Derek Trucks, Willie Weeks and Steve Jordan. Songs include "Tell The Truth", "Keys To The Highway", "Little Wing", "Motherless Children", "Wonderful Tonight", "Layla" and much more. Artwork, Screenshots 1,2,3

Enhanced even further by a nicely done authoring job, this Paddington release is the definitive visual document of this tasty performance. Scorcese was filming parts of these shows for a PBS documentary, "Martin Scorcese Presents: The Blues". Songs here include "Malted Milk", "How Long", "It Hurts Me Too". This is a 1 cam audience show with excellent picture quality. The audio could use more definition in the middle ranges but there is a nice amount of bass and highs to make it a good listen at lower to mid volume levels. Songs include "Where The River Flows", "Why Pt. 2", a surprisingly great cover of "Personal Jesus", "December", "Precious Declaration", "Gel", "Heavy", "The World I Know" and also "Counting The Days" which would later emerge in 2004 on their album "Youth". Arguably, this is Phil at the top of his game as a solo artist as he moves from the hits ("Against All Odds", "Sussuido") to lesser known album cuts ("Like China", "Hand In Hand") with ease thanks to his top notch band, which not only includes Chester Thompson and Darrel Stuermer but also the blazing Phoenix Horns. The picture quality and audio are superb, although I think the latter is just a tad too bright. Video Preview.

Concerts for the People of Kampuchea
- Concerts for the People of Kampuchea (1DVD) December 1979. Hammersmith Odeon, England. The people of what? Okay, this was a series of concerts featuring Queen, The Clash, The Pretenders, The Who, Elvis Costello, Wings, and many more artists which took place at the Hammersmith Odeon in '79 to raise money for the victims of Pol Pot's reign of terror in Cambodia. The event was organized by Paul McCartney and Kurt Waldheim, and it involved older artists such as McCartney and The Who as well as younger new wave acts like The Clash and the Pretenders. The last of the concerts was the last concert of Wings. An album and EP were released in 1981, and the best of the concerts were released as a film, Concert for Kampuchea. Songs include "Now I'm Here" (Queen), "Armageddon Time" (The Clash), "Coming Up" (Wings), "The Imposter" (Elvis Costello & The Attractions), "Little Sister" (Rockpile w/Robert Plant), "Behind Blue Eyes" (The Who) and much more. I swear, I've seen younger faces on cash! Okay, let's do the math - Ginger Baker had just turned 66 in August and Jack Bruce was 62. Even though they both easily look a good 10 years older than they are, they can still play. Clapton, who has never been absent from the music scene, is superb. If Cream hadn't released an official live DVD from this tour, I'd say this is a must have. However, I'd only recommend this to diehards. Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young (see also Neil Young)
- Wembley 1974 (2DVD). 9/14/74. London, England. CSN&Y only had two studio albums by this time and their last live album, "Four Way Street" from 1971, appeared to signal the end of the band. This show, which was an all day event featuring supporting acts Joni Mitchell and The Band (not included here), documented the final date on their reunion tour. 72,000 fans packed into Wembley Stadium to witness a show dominated by acoustic guitars and soaring vocal harmonies, not something you'd expect to see from such a large venue. However, the fans seemed to hang on every note and the show almost comes across as an intimate club gig. CSN&Y have had their share of personal conflicts but it all seemed behind them as they are obviously having a good time here. Graham Nash performs a beautiful version of "Our House", and his band mates really cheer him on, with David Crosby visibly moved by the performance. There are many laughs and loose moments, but overall a very solid performance. Joni Mitchell guests on Young's great "Helpless", Stephen Stills kills on the Beatles cover "Blackbird" and the list of highlights goes on and on. This is sourced from an in-house video feed. Picture quality and sound are very good to excellent, probably a generation or two away from the master. I've read there aren't any great copies of this show available to make for an official release, so this may be all we get. If you're a CSN&Y fan, this is a must have. Video Preview

However, the directors' son open his father's eyes to other Ska/2-Tone bands, such as The Specials, The Selecter, The Bodysnatchers, The Beat and Bad Manners. Soon, the movie's focus shifted to the 2-Tone movement and less about any one band. The film was shot in 1980, but by the time it came out in 1981 the 2-Tone movement had died down, making the movie a bit "old news". Davies even jokes the show will probably wind up being a bit hit and he'll see nothing from it. This show is Storytellers at it's best - an artist with actually something to say and relate about his life and music. Davies reads excerpts from his "unauthorized autobiography" titled "X-Ray". He tells childhood stories about how he and his brother, Dave, would perform for the rest of his family in the "front room" and how "Come Dancing" was about his sister and her boyfriend. Even though the show only runs about 45 minutes, it's full of interesting, sometimes funny stories and intimate music. The D*cline of Western Civilization Part II: The Metal Years
- Various Artists (1DVD). 1988. This is an out of print documentary, transferred from VHS, which takes a raw look at the heavy metal scene in the late 80's. Here you'll see many generations of metal heads from the godfathers (Gene Simmons, Alice Cooper, Lemmy, Joe Perry & Steven Tyler, Ozzy) to the new crop (Poison, Faster Pussycat, Vixen) to the ones who sadly haven't got a clue (Jaded Lady, Odin). Many balloon heads are paraded in front of your eyes one after another with stories and experiences about living the "heavy metal lifestyle". If nothing else, this movie shows why the metal scene wound up imploding just a few yeas later. It had become all "style" and no substance. I have to laugh at all these "tough guys" proclaiming to be real rockers, yet they dressed like fairies with their tight leather outfits and scarves, not to mention they think nothing of bragging about how much makeup and hairspray they apply for the ladies. When you do see performance footage here from any of these bands you'll want to throw yourself from a moving vehicle, it's that bad. Watch this movie and you'll see alot of flash, but no real talent...which pretty much summed up metal in the latter 80's. This movie is so outrageous it's definitely worth checking out, if only once. - Farewell Concert (1DVD). Berkley, CA. Greek Theatre, 9/11/82. When Michael McDonald announced he was leaving the band in '82 they didn't plan to continue without him. There's no doubt, this show was the end of the Doobies as the band made it clear to the audience. This is the final Doobie Brothers show until they would reform without McDonald (and with Tom Johnston) in the late 80's. The band pulls out all the stops in this broadcast and puts on a rocking show. You know McDonald already has one foot out the door when the band plays his solo tune "I Keep Forgetting". The band even does a forthcoming Patrick Simmons solo tune, "Out On The Streets", but you quickly realize he should have kept his day job. Overall, a memorable performance. The quality on my upgraded version is the best I have seen and sourced from a first generation source. There's some bonus footage of Michael McDonald on Solid Gold and the band performing on the sitcom "What's Happening". Video Preview

This is pretty much it for this band. While the Doobies would continue to record new music sporadically, they would never be as musically relevant as they were here. By this time the band had lost Tom Johnston, and surprisingly, sax/keyboardist Cornelius Bumpus does a fine job replacing him on vocals. Willie Weeks is on bass. My latest copy is from an out of print laserdisc source...quality is pristine both in picture and sound. Songs include "Taking It To The Streets", "What A Fool Believes", "Real Love" and more.
Quality Rating: A+- Two From The Late 70's (1DVD). Here is are two classic Doobie shows from Chicago 1977 and Alpine Valley 1979. Both shows feature Michael McDonald and are excellent both in sound and picture (the 77 show probably looks best). Songs include "Takin' It To The Streets", "China Groove", "Minute By Minute", "What A Fool Believes", "Jesus Is Just Alright", "Long Train Runnin", "Depending On You", "It Keeps You Running" and more. - Japan 2003 (1DVD). Not sure of the date or location for this show but the quality is very high, probably a high definition broadcast as this looks and sounds superb - like an official release. Here you get about an hour's worth of live footage including "Hungry Like The Wolf", "The Reflex", "Planet Earth", "Girls On Film", "Wild Boys", "Come Undone", "Ordinary World", "Notorious" and the new tunes "What Happens Tomorrow" and "Virus". The band is playing well and if you're a fan of the original lineup you'll definitely want this one. Artwork | Video Preview
Quality Rating: A+- Wedding Of One (1DVD). 6/16/93, Germany. Here the band has more of a stripped down sound as Warren and John play acoustic guitars mostly. However, the sound still comes off as urgent. The overall performance is a mixed bag. At times Simon has horrendous voice problems ("Ordinary World") and other times their new arrangements of old classics is a bit odd, as with "Girls On Film". However, there are times when Simon and the band are dead on, as with "Rio", where they turn in a very impressive performance. Worth a watch if you're a fan of this era. This is from a broadcast source. Both picture and sound are excellent. Artwork | Video Preview
Quality Rating: A- Big Egg (1DVD). 2/22/89, Tokyo Egg Dome, Japan. Here is a Japanese broadcast from the rarely documented "Big Thing" tour. I would say this is Duran Duran's "Popmart" as it's highly produced, very energetic and unlike any version of the band before or since. Simon's got longer hair and even looks like Poison's Brett Michaels at one point when he wears a bandanna. Nick Rhodes is caked with makeup and Warren looks straight off the Missing Persons boat with the big hairdo. However, the performance is probably what's most shocking here. The band is playing extremely well here, arguably the best ever. Warren's guitar playing is stunning and having Simon LeBon in good voice helps as well. Songs include "The Edge Of America", "Palomino", "A View To A Kill", "All She Wants Is", "Get It On", "Skin Trade", "The Reflex", "Rio" and more. Always looking for a pristine upgrade for this show. - Christchurch 1995 (2DVD). 11/26/95, Christchurch, New Zealand. Here the band is playing to a rain soaked crowd and pulling out all the hits. This 2DVD version has near mint picture quality and excellent sound...a definite improvement over the other grainy versions of this show. This is a great show which features over 2 hours of music. The band not only does Eagles tunes but also solo stuff from everyone as well including "You Belong To The City", "Boys Of Summer", "Funk #49", "Dirty Laundry" and much much more. There is also some bonus proshot footage from another stop on the tour. Artwork | Video Preview
Quality Rating: A+- Houston '77 (1DVD). Houston, TX. 6/11/77. Here's a classic Eagles show from the "Hotel California" tour. This is an in-house feed and the quality is very good for it's age boasting clear sound and fairly clear picture. Overall, a nice find for Eagles fans. Songs include "Lyin' Eyes", "Desperado", "Already Gone", "Funk 49", "James Dean" and much more. Artwork | Video Preview
Quality Rating: A-- Don Kirshner's Rock Concert (1DVD). 3/4/74, Los Angeles, CA. This classic show coincides with the release of the band's third album, "On The Border" and forthcoming 40 city tour. Don Felder had recently joined the band as well. This looks to be a generation or two down the line from an original TV station master copy and quality is very good for it's age. Songs include "Already Gone", "Peaceful Easy Feeling", "James Dean", a young Linda Ronstadt comes out to perform "Silver Threads And Golden Needles" and "Desperado" with the band, Jackson Brown performs "Up And Down The Highway" and "Take It Easy" as well. - Live At Kingdom Festival (1DVD). Switzerland, 7/25/97. As I've gotten older I've noticed that I appreciate certain bands more and others I can do without. ELP is one of those I'm growing less fond of as years go by. I'm not sure what it is, maybe it's because Keith Emerson has been playing the same damn organ sounds for the past 30 years, not sure. Either way, this is a somewhat rare broadcast of the band on one of their reunion tours from the late 90's. Although there is an official release from this tour ("Live At Montreux"), this DVD has more songs and is the complete show. Songs include "Karn Evil 9, Part 2", "Hoedown", "Touch And Go", "From The Beginning", "Bitches Crystal", "Take A Pebble", "Tarkus/Pictures At An Exhibition" and an surprising "21st Century Schizoid Man" (a classic track Lake recorded as the original lead singer of King Crimson). Quality is excellent on this one all around. Video Preview
Quality Rating: A- Touch And Go: A Retrospective 1986-93 (2DVD). Just when you thought it was over with these guys, they emerged halfway through the 80's with Cozy Powell, then morphed into the band "3" which featured Robert Berry, finally they became Emerson Lake and Palmer yet again. This DVD documents many of the TV appearances that surrounded the promotion of these many failed projects. The first disc opens with Keith and Cozy on Much Music (Canadian TV) being interviewed by a very young John Roberts, who is currently a senior CBS News correspondent. Roberts isn't just asking questions - he's a big fan of the band and it shows by his in depth questions. Another clip shows a brief interview segment with "3" and then the video for "Talkin' Bout" (which is nothing to talk about). There is also a video for "Touch And Go" as well. Other highlights include appearances on Letterman, Leno, Arsenio and, believe it or not, Regis and Kathy Lee where the band performs "From The Beginning". If you're a fan of this era you'll definitely want to check this out. All footage is of excellent quality. Artwork | Video Preview

- Savage (1DVD). My latest version of this long out of print title from 1987 is sourced from a Japanese laserdisc. Critics have slammed this album as being the worst of their career but I think otherwise. This is the band at their creative peak, delivering a concept album which blended their more mature sounds with echoes of their electronic past. There may be a couple songs I could do without but overall it's a very solid effort. This disc is basically a video companion to the album of the same name and features videos for each song tied together by a story. The audio quality here is excellent and songs include "Beethoven", "Heaven", "I Need A Man", "You Have Placed A Chill In My Heart", "I Got A Lover In Japan" and more. Video Preview.
Quality Rating: A+- Live (1DVD). 2/14/87. Sydney, Australia. This is an excellent transfer of the out of print VHS which documented their "Be Yourself Tonight" tour. Songs include "Here Comes The Rain Again", "Sex Crime", "Sweet Dreams", "Would I Lie To You", "Missionary Man".

Listen to "Epic" or "Falling To Pieces" from 1989 and tell me that rap/metal mixture didn't come alive in the mid to late 90's. It's a shame this band had to end but this performance captures them nicely. - Live in Europe 1989 - New Town (1DVD). This is a collection of concert videos filmed in 1988 and 1989 during the European Bete Noire Tour. The sound is excellent, and perhaps closer to what I would expect from a concert than I’m used to getting on a concert film. There’s a lot of low end and the room sounds large without being boomy or sounding like a cave. This show is pretty much non-stop energy and took me by surprise. This is all motion and atmosphere, and the tempo seems to have been pushed up on some of his mellower works. The show was obviously filmed on b grade stock and in places its black and white or grainy for style. Approx 90 min.

- The Firm Special (1DVD). Hammersmith Odeon, London. 9/12/84. Here's a show that aired on Japanese TV which featured a mix of interviews, live footage and videos. The Firm were a "supergroup" that featured ex-Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page and ex-Bad Company singer Paul Rodgers. Their aim was to not rely on their past, but were looking to start fresh and play only newer material. Songs include "Live In Peace", "Closer", "Radioactive", "Midnight Moonlight", and also "City Sirens", a track not included on either of their studio albums. There's also 5 bonus videos for "Tear Down The Walls", "Satisfaction Guaranteed" (probably their best tune), "Radioactive", "Live In Peace" and "All The Kings Horses". Roland Gift's vocals are amazing here and the band plays extremely well. All the mandatory songs are here including "Johnny Come Home", "I'm Not The Man I Used To Be", a very nice "Tell Me What", "Don't Look Back", "Ever Fallen In Love", "Suspicious Minds", "Good Thing" and more. - The Fixx & Rupert Hine Video Compilation (1DVD). Here is an excellent compilation of videos from the band along with some solo output from their producer, Rupert Hine (who also produced Rush's "Presto" and "Roll The Bones"). The videos are mainly sourced from VH1 Classic broadcasts, but what's nice are the audio tracks, which have been synched from CDs. There's 15 Fixx videos here including the early, rare "Some People", "Red Skies" (MTV Concert), "Saved By Zero", "Sign Of Fire", "Sunshine In The Shade", "Precious Stone", "Built For The Future" and more. There's also 5 videos from Rupert Hine ("Surface Tension") and with Thinkman ("Best Adventures"). There's also a video for "The Setup" which may take a few listens to fully appreciate, both lyrically and musically - a brilliant song. Fans of The Fixx and family will love this one for sure. - TV Video Compilation (1DVD). This DVD compiles clips from various TV appearances including "Rhiannon" and "Miles Away" from the Midnight Special 1976, "World Turning" from Rosebud film 1976, promotional clips for "Hold Me", "Tusk", "Gypsy" and even "Trouble" and "Go Insane" from Lindsey Buckingham. There's also videos for "Got A Hold On Me" from Christine McVie and "I Want You Back" from Mick Fleetwood. Some of the most interesting stuff here includes Bob Welch from the California Jam 2 with Stevie Nicks doing "Ebony Eyes". There's also a segment from the ABC show 20/20. The quality here never gets much beyond good, and that's a shame, particularly for the videos which could have easily used better sources. Overall, only recommended for diehards. Video Preview
Quality Rating: B/B+- In Concert: Mirage Tour '82 (1DVD). 10/21/82. Here is a transfer from the out of print (oop) VHS which documented their "Mirage" tour. The band performs very well here, particularly Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McVie. Stevie Nicks and Mick Fleetwood were heavily under the influence of cocaine during this period and it shows. Fleetwood looks like a demon with dark rings around his often bulging eyes. Nicks looks a bit emaciated and sometimes you can see the glazed look in her eyes. John McVie looks and sounds good here as he's on the road to sobering up after many years of alcohol abuse, which ultimately ended his marriage to Christine. As usual, the band manages to still sound quite good regardless of the personal issues going on here. Songs include "Love In Store", "You Make Loving Fun", "Not That Funny", "Tusk", "Rhiannon", "I'm So Afraid" and more. Video Preview

The Largo show was from the first tour with the new songwriting duo and all look real young here, including Mick Fleetwood who sports no facial hair (and doesn't look like a muppet). The show from '77 is the band in high gear riding the success of "Rumours". The quality here is very good throughout and you'll also notice "For Screening Purposes" across the screen at all times, but it doesn't distract from the performance. Fans of this era will love it! - Shoot! (1DVD). This band got their name from a newspaper headline about Frank Sinatra. Another change came to their sound when producer Trevor Horn (Yes, Buggles) saw a rough, early video for "Relax" on British TV, then approached the band about producing them. Horn then went on to produce their mega album "Welcome To The Pleasuredome". Trevor brought along former bandmates to guest on the album, namely Anne Dudley (Art Of Noise) and Steve Howe (Yes). - Friday's ABC TV 1980's - New Wave (1DVD). Here's an awesome collection of performances from the short lived TV show, Fridays. This was a weekly late-night live comedy show, which aired on Friday nights from 1980 to 1982. It was intended to cash-in on the success of NBC's Saturday Night Live, but wound up losing steam after only a couple seasons. While the comedy may have been a bit lackluster, the musical performances were strong and among the best on television at the time. This DVD focuses on New Wave artists that appeared on the show, including the US TV debuts of "The Stray Cats" and "The Clash". Both bands are smoking here! There's also performances from Devo, Split Enz, The Blasters, The Jam, The Plasmatics, Pretenders and more. Overall, a very enjoyable trip back to the early 80s! Video Preview

- P.O.V. (1DVD). This is a transfer from a laserdisc or VHS of this out of print (oop) title. The quality is very high on both picture and sound and highly recommended for any fans of this era. Taken from the breakthrough "So" tour, this documents highlights from one of the shows with some backstage footage as well. The video for "In Your Eyes" was taken from this show, and a classic version it is. Other songs include "Shock The Monkey", "Games Without Frontiers", "Sledgehammer", "Solsbury Hill", "Biko", "San Jacinto" and more.
Quality Rating: A+- Then And Now (1DVD). This DVD features 2 Gabriel performances. One is from Rockpalast 1978 and the other is an audience shot from Munich 2002. If you're a fan of Gabriel from his early solo days, you'll want this. His performance is quite "punky" and electric with Tony Levin on bass and Jerry Marotta on drums. Songs include "Solsbury Hill", "I Don't Remember", "Here Comes The Flood", "Humdrum" and even "The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway", which does sound a bit sloppily rushed through. Keep in mind Gabriel had only been out of Genesis for three years at this point. The audio and video for the '78 show is great. The audience shot for Munich 2002 isn't bad either but if you've got the official release from this tour is should be enough.

Quality Rating: A+- Calling All Stations Live (1DVD) 1/31/98, Katowice, Poland. Here is an excellent quality broadcast from the final Genesis tour. It's amazing to see what this great band had been reduced to here. Singer Ray Wilson is no Gabriel or Collins and it's plainly evident as he sounds so out of place singing the back catalog. Couple that with the weak material here from the "Stations" album and you've got something that is worth watching for curiosity's sake... beyond that, it's pretty awful. However, if you like this era of the band you'll definitely want to pick this up. Songs include "The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway", "Carpet Crawlers", "Calling All Stations", "Land Of Confusion" and more. Video Preview
Quality Rating: A+- A History (1DVD). This is the 1990 documentary which features interviews with seemingly everyone ever involved in the band, from Jonathan King (who discovered them) to Anthony Phillips (former member). There's lots of footage here, much of it extremely rare. It gives hope that one day some of the concert clips shown here will be released officially one day. The documentary runs about 90mins and is very in-depth. Highly recommended for diehard fans or newbies. I'm not sure of the source, probably a high quality VHS transfer. Artwork
Quality Rating: A+- Knebworth '92 (2DVD). 8/2/92, Knebworth, England. If you love the official DVD from this tour you'll really like this one too. The concert starts near dusk so you can see the sky and trees behind the video screens which gives this a nice atmosphere to start the show. The sound is right from the board and starts off a bit rough. The first couple songs suffer a bit from an odd mix but things even out by the "Old Medley" where they hand in another fine performance. This is a great companion to the official release. The quality here is excellent and from a European broadcast. Artwork
Quality Rating: A- Mama Tour (2DVD). This is a transfer from the out of print laserdisc. The picture and sound are excellent here. This release also features the one hour documentary "Behind The Music" as a bonus. The band are promoting their self-titled album and there are some great performances here, especially "Abacab" and the medley, which consists of "In The Cage/In That Quiet Earth/Slippermen/Afterglow". I can do without some of Phil's rambling between songs but overall a great show. Video Preview

Quality Rating: A+- London 1980 (1DVD). 5/7/80. Here is a video bootleg of the most popular Genesis show "Musica" (aka "Duke's Source Live"). I'm not sure of the source, but it's a one camera show and the person filming is literally on the stage with the band so you get some very close shots of Tony Banks playing the keyboards, etc. The camera will then move around to an area behind Phil's drums so you can see him during the solo spots. Every so often the camera will go dark while the taper repositions. The audio is taken from a soundboard feed, probably "Musica". More good news - it's the complete show and second of their 2 night stand here. Songs include "The Lady Lies", "Say It's Alright Joe", "One For The Vine", "The Knife", "Deep In the Motherlode" and much more.
Quality Rating: A- Old Grey Whistle Test (1DVD). 5/7/80. Lyceum Ballroom, London. This is a spectacular release of Genesis on their second night in London on Duke tour. Sourced from a pre-broadcast master, the quality is perfect all around (looks official). This was originally broadcast on the British show "Old Grey Whistle Test". The only downside is the running time, which is around an hour. The full show would have been great, but we have "The Story Of Albert" for this. This is Genesis at the end of their "prog" period as many of the adventuresome songs played here would never be played again. Songs include "Behind The Lines/Duchess", "In The Cage/Slippermen", "Dance On A Volcano", "Los Endos".
Quality Rating: A+- The Story Of Albert (1DVD). 5/6/80. Genesis played two nights at the Lyceum Ballroom in London on the Duke tour. This show is taken from the first night and not the same show as "Musica" (aka "Duke's Side Live"), one of the most coveted Genesis shows. This show is a real find as it documents the last of the "old" Genesis sound and stage show. It's hard to believe that "Abacab" and the resulting "Three Sides Live" tour followed this one. A good number of the songs in this show are never to be heard from again, including "Deep In The Motherlode", "Squonk", "One For The Vine", "Say It's Alright Joe", "The Lady Lies", "Duke's Travels/End" and more. Never again would the band embrace it's prog roots as they do here. If you're a fan of this era you'll definitely want this show in your collection. Picture quality and audio are very nice. The band would never be the same after this, even with the "Lamb" tour on the horizon in '75. This show captures the band in their classic heyday and a must for all fans of this era. Gilmour's second solo album was much more accessible than his solo debut in 1978 and this performance shows it. The band are playing very well and it's quite an enjoyable show. Highlights include the opening "Until We Sleep". Also included are "All Lovers Are Deranged" (co-written with Pete Townshend), "Murder" and Floyd tunes "Run Like Hell" and "Comfortably Numb" (w/Nick Mason). This one is a MAJOR upgrade. The picture is very clear and the sound more punchy (as opposed to the bass heavy VHS version). Digitally sourced from a 1" station master, this is the definitive version. Someone who works at an East Coast TV station found a 1" station master and digitally transferred it. This is without a doubt the best looking (and probably sounding) source for this show. There's a bonus, "Love On The Air" which also comes from the same gig. 63 min. Video Preview

- Live In Munich + Making Of (1DVD) 22/9/86, Germany. This DVD features performances from their first and only tour plus a now out of print documentary. The performance is taken from a broadcast and the quality is very good. The audio mix could be much better as I'm not sure what to make of the band's performance after watching this. They sounded really good on the King Biscuit official release, but here they sound a bit weak. Luckily their better tunes are here including "When The Heart Rules The Mind" and "You Can Still Get Through". The documentary is probably the most interesting here as it does a good job of showing what went into getting Howe and Hackett together as well as the rest of the band. Also included is the video for "When The Heart Rules The Mind". Quality is excellent. Video Preview | Video Preview 2

- Welcome To The Riot Show (1DVD). 7/2/91, Riverport Amphitheatre, St. Louis, MO. Axel has been known to piss off fans by showing up late for gigs. At this show, the fans were in no mood for his antics. About 14 songs into their set (during "Rocket Queen") Axel sees someone with a camera. Then he goes batshit crazy and jumps into the audience to get the camera himself. After security helps him back to the stage, he announces he's going home and then all hell breaks loose. The fans are so upset they literally rip the place apart. While the show itself is proshot, we see the riot portion through the lens of a private cam. Fans begin ripping up seats and throwing anything they can at the stage, turning the amphitheatre into a war zone. Video Preview

Quality is excellent and audio-wise you have 2 options. The first is the original broadcast audio. The other is a mono soundboard mix, which is excellent and the best audio option here. The band here is very young and the performance is very raw. Original drummer Steven Adler is here as well. Songs include "Mr. Brownstone", "It's So Easy", "Paradise City", "Sweet Child Of Mine", "Welcome To The Jungle", "Night Train" and more from their debut album. Artwork | Video Preview

- San Jose 1984 (1DVD). Live At Civic Auditorium, San Jose, CA. 11/14/84 & 11/15/84. This band comprised of Sammy Hagar (formerly of Montrose and later Van Halen), Neil Schon (Santana, Journey), Aaronson (Billy Idol), and Michael Shrieve (Santana). Neil was looking to rock out and a bit tired of the pop/rock he had been peddling in Journey. The result here is a 80's hard rock, pretty much what you'd expect from these guys, nothing exceptional. The band does rock out and fans of this lineup will probably enjoy. This is sourced from an out of print VHS. Songs include "Top Of The Rock", "Missing You" and more. Video Preview

- The Liberty Concert (1DVD) 7/4/85, Liberty State Park, Jersey City, NJ. You may recall this concert was aired on HBO one summer evening in '85. In my opinion, this is Hall And Oates at their peak creatively and performance-wise. This is a transfer from Japanese Laserdisc to DVD so the quality is very high...hasn't looked and sounded this good since I saw it back in the day. All of the major hits are here including "Say It Isn't So", "Rich Girl", "Family Man", "Out Of Touch", "Method Of Modern Love", "Maneater", "Some Things Are Better Left Unsaid" and more. A must for all fans of this band.
Quality Rating: A+- Rock And Soul Live + Live At The Apollo (1DVD). Here are a couple of out of print shows together on one disc. Picture and sound quality are excellent. "Rock and Soul Live" accompanied the greatest hits CD of the same name and draws largely from many hits of the time including "Family Man", "Kiss On My List", "I Can't Go For That", "You Make My Dreams", "Wait For Me", "Maneater" and even some album cuts such as "Italian Girls", "The Art Of Heartbreak", "Open All Night" and more. The band seem to come full circle on "Apollo" as they perform with the legendary soul singers David Ruffin and Eddie Kendricks. Hall and Oates seem to be in heaven doing backup vocals here for classics such as "Get Ready", "My Girl", "The Way You Do The Things You Do" and more. Even the Hall and Oates penned "Everytime You Go Away" feels right at home in this soulful atmosphere.

Herbie Hancock and the Rockit Band
- Live At Hammersmith (1DVD). Hammersmith Odeon, London, 1984. If you were awake in the 80's there's no way you could have missed out on the song and video "Rockit". A cool pop songs from a jazz musician who decided to risk his career and try something different. Many would argue that Hancock didn't really mix any jazz into his pop adventures. Just because some old fart isn't playing an upright bass next to his piano doesn't mean there's no jazz here. The spirit of jazz is very much alive and well here. Herbie's band includes Bernard Fowler, Wayne Brathwaite, Anton Fier, J.T. Lewis, Jeff Bova and DJ S.T doing scratch. Included on stage are many of the “robots” from the "Rockit" video. The show starts off as a pretty standard concert video with some excellent jazz/techno fusion. It slows down a bit when he has his vocalist doing a few RnB type songs, but overall it’s a decent view. This was captured from Laserdisc so both picture and sound are nice and clean. At the end of the show are the videos for "Autodrive" and "Rockit", both of which are quite entertaining and innovative for the time. Video Preview

- Crossroads (1DVD). April, 2004. Nashville, TN. I wouldn't normally be into Heart from this period in their career, but I got this one for my wife who attended the show. We watched it recently and she was telling me how the entire show lasted about 5 hours because they had to perform each song at least twice due to screw ups (on both sides). The sound guy complained it was the longest show to date. This is sourced right from the broadcast, so quality is high. Here Heart is paired up with Winona Judd in a one-time only performance. While I'm not a Winona fan, there's no doubting she can sing and does extremely well handling the vocals on "Magic Man" and "Dog And Butterfly". Songs include "No One Else On Earth", "Love Hurts" and more. Overall, a very good show. Video Preview
Quality Rating: A+- Video Collection Vol. 1 + 2 (2DVD). Disc 1 of this compilation features videos, mainly from their 80's/90's hits including "Alone", "Who Will You Run To", "What About Love", "There's The Girl", "Nothing At All" and many more. The quality of the audio/video is generally very good to excellent (the 80's videos sound best). Disc 2 features their "Behind The Music" documentary and live clips from various sources including the very nice California Jam 2 (1978), Beat Club (1976/77), Friday's (1981), Tomorrow Show and more. The quality is generally pretty good. Some of the footage is a bit high gen, but fans should be pleased with the collection as a whole if they've never seen these clips. Artwork
Quality Rating: B+/A- Concert For The Americas (1DVD). 8/22/82. Dominican Republic, South America. Here is a nice upgrade to this show. My last copy had a noticeably poor picture, but this is very clear and bright. The sound has some bottom and not nearly as flat as before. Live songs include "Crazy On You", "Magic Man", "Barracuda". Santana follows Heart onstage but a thunderstorm aborts their set after only a few songs (all included here to watch unfold). As a matter of fact, you can hear the thunder right from the first song. In what looked like a Spinal Tap moment, int he middle of the first song an announcer can be heard telling the audience the band would continue to play through the rain! Their set included "All I Wanted", "Improv Jam" and "Black Magic Woman". It's during the latter when the torrential rains, thunder and lightning forced not only the end of their set, but the complete show. Video Preview

Audio and video quality isn't too bad, although you can tell it's a couple gens down the line. Also included here is a "Dog And Butterfly" promo which boasts much better picture quality and includes some backstage, studio and performance footage as well. Songs include "Love Alive", "Straight On" and many more. After this period, the romances between the Wilson sisters and guitarist Roger Fisher ended and he wound up leaving the band. This would lead to more personnel changes that would mark the end of the initial classic lineup of the band.

The show lasts close to an hour and includes "Heartless" (which would later be released in 1978), "Crazy On You", "Magic Man", "Devil Delight" and more. Some of the best material here lies in the bonus features, which include 1977/78 performances from "The Midnight Special" and 1976/77 performances from the German "Beat Club". The bonus footage shows the band with more confidence and the performances prove it. A must for all early Heart fans. Artwork | Video Preview.

- Philadelphia Spectrum (1DVD). 11/25/87. This appears to be an MTV Thanksgiving concert and could have been the ultimate Hooters experience (aside from going to the actual restaurant) but the problem here is the audio. It sounds muffled and inconsistent and takes away from the experience. If you're a diehard fan and don't have this, you may enjoy it. But for the passing fan looking for some Hooters, it's a shame this one won't do it. If anyone has excellent audio for this show, perhaps a re-synching can be done to improve this show. As a matter of fact, it's one of the only independent public television stations around. The good news or the bad news first? Howe's acoustic performance is great here...I only wish the sound were better. It seems to be recorded a bit too loud as there is some minor distortion. If anyone has a better sounding version of this show, please let me know. This DVD also includes a performance by Yes at Konocti Harbor Resort in 2002. This is an interesting outdoor gig, filmed for a local television broadcast. Picture is excellent and sound very good as well, although it could be a bit brighter. This also features interviews with Alan White and Chris Squire. Songs include "Siberan Khatru", "In The Presence Of" and more.

- The Melbourne Music Show (1DVD). Melbourne, Australia, 1988. This government funded concert was intended to promote Australian music to the world, but instead wound up only airing on Australian TV. The quality of the broadcast is excellent, however, I found the performance to be a bit too slick and lackluster. It's probably a good thing this wasn't used as a promotional tool for "down under" as there's not much here to brag about. Songs include "Electric Blue", "Heartbreak Kid", "Crazy", "No Promises" and more. Video Preview

- Rockpalast '97 (1DVD). Loreley, St. Goarshausen, Germany. 6/21/97. This is one of the band's last shows with Michael Hutchence, about 4 months before he was found hanged from Autoerotic Asphyxiation. Hutchence's problems may have begun in 1992 when he was hit by a cab while riding his bike in Denmark. This accident caused the singer to lose his sense of smell and taste, not to mention caused him brain injury as well. The band maintained he was not quite the same after that experience. In this performance I see a side of Hutchence never seen before. He uses foul language between songs, sometimes rambling and even smokes a joint! Overall, it's a very good performance. Songs include "Elegantly Wasted", "New Sensation", "Never Tear Us Apart", "Kick", "Don't Lose Your Head" and more. Video Preview

- Eddie Rips Up Gothenburg (1DVD). 9/7/05, Gothenburg, Sweeden. If you're a fan of the first 4 Maiden albums (pre-Powerslave), you will think you died and went to leather heaven. Maiden's latest tours have been very heavy on newer material and fans were getting pissy. So, the band embarked on an "Early Days" tour where they performed nothing but old stuff. Sporting no less than 3 guitarists, they plow mercilessly through classic Maiden and it works. This is an awesome looking and sounding broadcast. Hey, if you're gonna die, die with this boot on. Here is a copy of the out of print DVD which documented the band's "Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son" tour (arguably, their last great album). In a way, this tour does mark the end of the Maiden "golden age". Even though Bruce Dickinson would stick around for a couple more albums, none of them came close to the quality of anything pre "Seventh Son". Quality Rating: A+- Live After Death (1DVD). Here is a copy of the out of print Brazilian import of this classic Maiden show. I've seen the quality on some of these Brazilian discs (namely Rush's Exit Stage Left and Show Of Hands) and the quality left me scratching my head in wonderment....and not in a good way. However, this show seems to fare better in the quality department even though the 5.1 audio track isn't that strong, a common feature with these imports. As for the show itself...killer killer killer. In my opinion, this is Maiden at their peak and I remember being blow away when I first heard the live album "Live After Death" from this tour when I was a teenager. I still think they were the best metal band of the 80's not only because they had some memorable metal tunes but also because they could play their instruments very well, including Steve Harris on bass and Adrian Smith on lead guitar. - The Piano Man In Japan (1DVD). Tokyo Dome, Japan, 11/30/06. Honestly, I thought Billy Joel was done. His sporadic live performances of late (including tours with Elton John) haven't been much to write about. However, I knew something different was in the air upon hearing his "12 Gardens Live" CD, a collection of live songs recorded over many sold out nights in New York City. Even though longtime drummer Liberty DeVito was gone, the band sounded refreshed and Joel was in great voice and singing the songs as if his life depended on it. This DVD is no different as Billy and his band play wonderfully through a great set that includes the hits ("My Life", "Allentown", "I Go To Extremes"), album cuts ("The Stranger", "Zanzibar", "Miami 2017") and some rarely played gems ("An Innocent Man", "Don't Ask Me Why"). Quality Rating:- Face To Face (1DVD). Japan 1998. This is one of many shows Joel did with his longtime friend (and fellow piano player), Elton John. While this lineup looks like gold on paper, it doesn't translate as well on stage. Elton John can still belt out any tune in his catalog while Joel struggles even to sing his own material at times. When Joel attempts singing Elton's songs the limits of his voice become even more apparent. Watching Joel duet with Elton on "Your Song" almost has the same effect of nails running down a chalk board. Not only does Joel have alot of experiences to draw from, he's a natural at public speaking and relates well to his audience. "Live In Russia" documents Billy's travels to the country and one of the performances there. At times the show comes off awkward between the pre-cold war crowd not sure how to react to an American rock band and the interpreter who seems to drag out Joel's brief comments between songs. Also, I'm not too crazy about the band Joel assembled here for this tour, not the best he can do. You may find the "Shades" documentary more interesting as it tells the story about how Joel came to write and record the "River Of Dreams" album. Liberty DeVito talks candidly about being left out of the album at the hands of producer Danny Kortchmar and more. Also has concert footage.

The picture quality here is stunning and could double for an official release. The audio sounds like it could use more high end, but there's plenty of bass here. This may be sourced from a Japanese laserdisc judging by the rambling announcer at the beginning. Watching this, I realized how much I prefer Howard in the studio as there's not much to watch here. His performance, while good, has that 80's cheese element that doesn't work well for me now. However, Hojo fans will enjoy. I would like to find something from his "Perform" era (2000) as that band had a much better live show. Songs on this one include "No One Is To Blame", "Pearl In A Shell", "Life In One Day" and more. Artwork

- Live From The Hammersmith (1DVD). 1983. Who the hell is Kid Creole? Some would say an unusual mix of Cab Calloway, Morris Day and The Time and Ricky Riccardo. Even if you're not familiar with their material, they are still an interesting, fun band to watch perform. This was taped at the Hammersmith in 1983 and released in the UK only as a PAL VHS. Like most music video released in the UK back then, the tape itself was mono. The good news is this was made from a tape from Australian TV where it was actually broadcast in stereo. The video didn't suffer any from being off cable, and the sound is much better than the VHS release. The stage itself is a HUGE mock up, again a cross between Glen Miller and Gilligan's Island. There’s at least 14 band members including the Coconuts. This appears to be the only show from that era that was taped. There is a much more recent DVD out shot in Paris, but this was at the height of his career and the money flowed freely for props, production and musicians. You may recall seeing this band's cameo appearance in the the 80's movie, "Against All Odds" where they were given quite a bit of camera time. Video Preview 1 | Video Preview 2

- European TV Compliation (1DVD). Here is a nice compilation of live European TV appearances from their excellent 1981/82 period. Featuring Adrian Belew, Tony Levin, Bill Bruford and of course Robert Fripp. Here you will find broadcasts from Old Grey Whistle Test ("Frame By Frame", "Indiscipline"), German TV ("Matte Kudasai", "Heartbeat"), Italian TV and an interesting Robert Fripp documentary. Here you'll find interviews and footage of Fripp with family, fans, friends, playing a synthesized guitar in a church and footage of the studio rehearsals for the album "Bewitched" with Andy Summers (The Police). The quality is about what you'd expect from an original early 80's broadcast. NTSC, 73 min (approx). Menu capture | Video Preview

- Germany 1999 (1DVD). March 11, April 2nd and 4th 1999. Here is a collection of German television broadcasts from Luebeck, Hamburg & Dusseldorf. The quality here is pretty good at best. Not great but watchable. The best footage here is from Rockpalast, where you get 8 songs. Overall 19 songs round up this collection with some overlap between locations. Songs include "The Train", "We Were Born To Be Loved", "Dogman", "Moanjam", "Lost In Germany", "Black Flag", "Looking For Love", "Summerland" and more.

- Ray Davies Storytellers (1DVD). New York, 6/2/96. This was the first ever episode of the popular series "Storytellers" and served as the prototype for what was to come. This is the way Storytellers was intended and only a few artists actually delivered along these lines. Picture/sound here is pretty good, but always seeking an upgrade. Artwork
Quality Rating: A-- UK TV Live in the 80's and 90s (1 PAL DVD). A rare compilation of Kinks live UK TV performances from the 1980s and `90s. Songs include, "Think Visual", "The Informer", "You Really Got Me", "Scattered", "Days", "Lola" and more. Plus Ray Davies solo performances, guest appearances and interviews. 77 minutes. Quality is generally very good throughout.
Quality Rating: A/A-- Rockplast '82 (1DVD). 4/3/82. Essen, Germany. There is a goldmine of shows in the Rockpalast vaults, and this is no exception. Taken from a master copy, this is one killer Kinks show from the "Give The People What They Want Tour" (my favorite Kinks album). The set is heavy on tunes from that album including "Around The Dial", "Destroyer", "Yo-Yo", "Back To Front", the title cut and more. There's also a rocking version of Dave's "Bernadette" which would surface on the next album "State Of Confusion". Overall, if you're a Kinks fan, this is for you. The sound could use a bit more bottom end, but it's very clear, well mixed and excellent all around. Artwork

- Rio '83 (1DVD). 6/18/83, Rio DeJaneiro. Kiss toured South America knowing it was the last time they'd be in makeup. This show is among the very last to feature the band in makeup and they put on one hell of a show. While the video here is very nice, the audio lacks tremendously, pretty much making it only enjoyable to diehard fans. If anyone has a copy with great audio, let me know. Vinny Vincent is on guitar and Eric Carr on drums. Songs include "I Love It Loud", "War Machine", "Creatures Of The Night", "Black Diamond" and more. Also included are bonus performances from Cobo Hall '76, Midnight Special '75 and ABC In Concert '74. The quality on the bonus stuff is not as good as the Rio show. Video Preview
Quality Rating: Video B-/A ; Audio C/B+- Creatures Of The Night Media Collection (2DVD). Kissvision Remaster. Here's a collection of clips surrounding the promotion of their final album in makeup, "Creatures Of The Night". This era also features the additions of Vinny Vincent on guitar and Eric Carr on drums. Clips include a lengthy, raw feed interview from USA Network's "Night Flight", many lip-synch performances from various shows worldwide (many featuring Ace), segments on "PM Magazine" and "Entertainment Tonight" and other TV shows. One thing to keep in mind, at this time Kiss had never been seen without their makeup. They had a mystique that not only drew fans, but also the ire of the religious sector who claimed the band worshipped the devil. Because of this, many of the news clips feature the band dealing with questions about being a bad influence on kids, devil worship, etc. The quality is generally very good to excellent throughout.
Quality Rating: Video B/A ; Audio B-/A- Dynasty Media Collection (1DVD). 1979. Here's a very nice collection of promotional clips from their "Dynasty" era, probably the last hurrah for the original band. Here you'll see Don Kirshner's Rock Concert, a "20/20" segment called "Kiss And Sell", a bit on Jerry Lewis' M.D. Telethon, "Hot Hero Sandwich" (behind the scenes look at the band), an appearance on the "Tomorrow Show" (Tom Snyder), "3-2-1 Contact", and various news footage w/interviews. For fans of this era, it's a must.
Quality Rating: A-- The Return Of Kiss (1DVD) 7/8/79, Largo, MD. Here is a show from the "Dynasty" tour. Video quality is very good, while the sound isn't all that great. However, if you like this era of the band you'll want this rare item. The setlist includes songs from their solo albums, including Gene's "Radioactive", Ace's "New York Groove", Paul's "Move On" and Criss' horrible "Tossin' And Turnin'" (he would be leaving the band within the next year). In some parts the band is noticeably not quite sharp and the vocals will make you wince but other performances are good, including "Groove" and "Firehouse".
Quality Rating: Video: A ; Audio: B- 1976-78 Media Collection (1DVD). Here's a nice collection of promotional clips surrounding the release of "Rock And Roll Over", "Love Gun", "Alive II" and the solo albums. Included are everything from short TV commercials (Kiss makeup kits, dolls, album promos) to news segments ("Nightbird w/Allison Steele", "Robert Klein Hour") and music shows ("American Music Awards '77", "Dick Clark's Golden Greats"), band interviews and more. Fans interested in media clips from this era will love it.
Quality Rating: A-- Kiss Meets The Phantom Of The Park (1DVD). This is a made for TV movie featuring Kiss that came out around Halloween 1978. Even with Kiss not in this movie as much as you'd think, it still wreaks. Why? From what I've seen and heard about the making of this movie the band had their lines fed to them right before each take so the "acting" is horrendous and nobody in the band delivers their lines with any authenticity (and when they do speak, it's not much). Gene Simmons usually has an overdubbed tigers roar whenever he opens his mouth while Peter Criss' lines are completely overdubbed by another actor because he simply couldn't handle the shoot (due to drugs). Even Ace Frehley was replaced in one scene by a black guy in white makeup during a fight scene because he wasn't available that day of the shoot. Overall, it's a mess. Kiss fans, from what I understand, eat this up and see it as a cult classic. To me it's like watching surgery on your own foot without anesthetic. This long out of print movie is transferred from laserdisc and also includes a bonus CBS promo clip. Artwork | Video Preview
Quality Rating: A- Summit '77 (1DVD). 9/2/77, The Summit, Houston, TX. Here's a great show from the band's "Love Gun" tour. The video quality is excellent, while the audio is very raw and on the flat side. However, this show can be moderately cranked and enjoyed. The performance here is energetic and probably close to the end of what you'd call "classic" Kiss. Soon drugs would consume Ace and Peter's playing ability and by the Dynasty tour the sloppiness was very apparent on stage. The playing here, while not quite as ferocious as earlier tours, is still vibrant. Songs include "Shout It Out Loud", "Shock Me", "Firehouse", "Hooligan" (vocal Criss), "Detroit Rock City", "Black Diamond", "Christine Sixteen". Also included is a picture gallery. A must for all Kiss fans.
Quality Rating: Video: A+ ; Audio: A-- Kiss Destroys Anaheim (1DVD). 8/20/76. Anaheim, California. Here is an excellent show from the band, with great video quality and okay sound. Songs include "Hotter Than Hell", "Detroit Rock City", "Strutter", "Do You Love Me", "Firehouse", "Deuce" and more. From what I understand, Kiss will soon be opening up their video archives for official release...let's hope this one makes it.
Quality Rating: Video A ; Audio A-- Winterland '75 (1DVD). Winterland Ballroom, San Francisco, CA. 1/31/75. This rare video does a great job of documenting their "Hotter Than Hell" tour. The video, while black and white, appears to be professionally filmed. If you're familiar with the official release "Kiss Exposed" you'll recognize "Deuce" here. The performance is nothing short of classic, early Kiss. Songs include "Strutter", "Got To Choose", "Watchin' You", "Parasite", "Black Diamond", "Cold Gin" and more. There's also a very nice Photo Gallery here with many rarely seen photos. Artwork
Quality Rating: Video A ; Audio B+- Cobo Hall '75 (1DVD). 1/25 & 26/76. Detroit, Michigan. Here are two classic Kiss shows on one disc. Kiss were at their peak here, putting on solid rock shows, full of energy, guitar riffs, fire breathing, blood spitting - everything your grandma warned you about. These early shows have an urgency and hunger that would soon leave the band. For any Kiss fan this a must as it showcases the essence of Kiss as a live act. Peter Criss' drumming has alot of drive and "pop" and that really helps to keep things rocking. Songs include "Deuce", "Strutter", "Firehouse", "She", "Hotter Than Hell", "Parasite", "100,000 Years" and more..
Quality Rating: Video: B/B+ ; Audio: B+/B-- Long Beach '74 (1DVD). Long Beach, CA. This disc claims to contain some of the oldest Kiss footage in existence including not only the infamously rare Long Beach show but also extremely rare European television clips from the time. The Long Beach footage is very good for it's age and appears to be from 8mm footage (color and timecode). The raw audio is from the soundboard and is listenable but not great. If you're a fan of very early Kiss you'll want to check this out. Artwork | Video Preview.

- Video Collection (1DVD). This is ripped from an out of print Japanese laserdisc so quality is excellent. The problem here isn't the quality or songs - their videos are so dated visually that it's mind numbing to watch. Songs include "Tonight", "Get Down On It", "Celebration", "Misled", "Joanna" and more.
Quality Rating: Video A ; Audio A+- Kool And The Gang Tonight (1DVD). 1985. This is ripped from an out of print Japanese laserdisc so quality is high. If you're fan of the band, this would be the show to get as it features all aspects of their live show from the funky grooves to the drippy ballads. The band's outfits and choreography are borderline homo, but they are playing extremely tight here. Songs include "Ladies Night", "Tonight", "Joanna", "Get Down On It", "Let's Go Dancing", "Celebration" and more.
- The History, Part I (2DVD). Here's an excellent collection of promotional clips from a band rarely documented on video. Included are clips for "Autobahn", "Radioactivity", "Antenna", "The Robots ('76)" and "The Robots - The Mix", "Das Model", "Music Non Stop", "Expo 2000" and more, including some interesting interviews. Fans will love it, just don't expect to get laid if there's any women in the room.
Quality Rating: B+/A- Brixton '04 (1DVD). England 2004. I got this one for a friend and must say it's an interesting show to watch, even if it is an audience video. Since the band pretty much stay glued to their keyboards and there's lots of video screens around them, one guy with a video camera out in the audience can actually do a great job recording this one! The sound isn't bad either and fans of the band will enjoy (as my friend did). Video Preview.
Quality Rating: A- Stop Sellafield (1DVD). If you're only interested in the Kraftwerk part of this show, you may want to check out "The History, Part I" DVD as it has the same footage from this show, if not more. Video Preview

- Reunion Collection (1DVD). Here is a collection of all the post-Bonham Zeppelin performances from "Live Aid", "Atlantic Records 40th Anniversary" and "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame" induction. The footage from each of these performances is probably the best I've seen so far. The other way to look at this - here's a collection of the least satisfying Zeppelin performances. The Live Aid performance was not good at all, even with Phil Collins and Tony Thompson pounding away on drums. They all had no practice or time to prepare so no wonder. The Atlantic Records set has a questionable sound mix - I'm not sure if Jones' bass was even plugged into the board. Page is a bit sloppy and not impressive at all on guitar. John Bonham's son, Jason, is on drums and he does a fine job - probably handing in the best performance you'll see on this entire DVD. The Hall Of Fame performance is the best one here, however, they often perform with others including Steven Tyler of Aerosmith and Neil Young. The Hall of Fame footage may be the only reason to pick this one up. I should also mention the menu on this one is not in English, looks Greek to me. A nice job done, though. Quality Rating: A- Knebworth Festival 1979 (3DVD). 8/11/79. No label version. Here is the complete Zeppelin set from their second Knebworth Festival performance. The picture and sound quality on this release is the best I've seen of this footage (aside from what wound up on the official DVD). The band puts on an excellent performance here and is playing, for the first time, songs from their soon to be released final album "In Through The Out Door". Songs include "Nobody's Fault But Mine", "All Of My Love", "Trampled Underfoot", "In The Evening".
Quality Rating: Video: A- ; Audio A- Knebworth Festival 8.11.79 (1DVD). Genuine Bastard label. Here is a 1DVD version of their second Knebworth show. While it's nice to have this show on 1DVD, I believe the 3DVD version is a little better in picture and sound. The "no label" version has a little crisper picture and warmer sound. It took me a while to arrive at this conclusion because both versions are really close in quality. However, I did notice the fuller (deeper bass) sound on the 3 disc version after many A/B comparisons. Artwork
Quality Rating: Video: A- ; Audio A- Knebworth First Night (2DVD). 8/4/79. This show had been in obscurity for many years but has recently surfaced - and with very good quality. This set definitely holds it's own with the Knebworth performance from 8/11/79. As a matter of fact, the band may be performing a little better here...they just seem to have it more together. Songs include "Misty Mountain Hop", "Black Dog", "Nobody's Fault But Mine" and more. Video Preview

Quality Rating: Video A- ; Audio A- Unstoppable Metal Machine (1 DL DVD). 5/25/75, Earl's Court, London, England. This is probably the best Zeppelin boot out there now. Supposedly sourced from the master, this one has been held tightly by collectors for decades. The quality here is top notch, the best I've seen on a Zeppelin show so far. Here Zeppelin is performing the last of a few shows at Earl's Court. This is the full show, approx 226 minutes. Songs include "Sick Again", "Over The Hills And Far Away", "In My Time Of Dying", "The Song Remains The Same" and much more. Artwork
Quality Rating: A- Earl's Court (2DVD). 5/24/75. Here's an excellent proshot of Zeppelin on their "Physical Graffiti" tour. The picture quality and sound are great here. Quality Rating: A+- Level Best (1DVD). Here is a video compilation which is sourced from an out of print VHS. The quality is excellent all around. Most of the videos are forgettable but there are some nuggets along the way. "Lessons In Love", arguably their best track, combines everything great about this band - the soulful vocals of Mark King and Mike Lindup, funky rhythms and more hooks than a tackle box. Other highlights include "Hot Water" with it's percolating bass grooves, the smooth "Children Say", the quirky fun of "Tracie" and "Something About You", their biggest radio hit from "World Machine". Fans of the band will dig it.

Here is the classic lineup performing at their peak with great singer Glen Shorrock on songs such as "Man On Your Mind", "Happy Anniversary", "Reminiscing", "Cool Change", "Night Owls", "Lonesome Loser" and more. - Unreleased Vol. 1 (PAL DVD). The first in a series of 3 DVDs devoted to performances that did not make the official 4DVD release. While the official release didn't every single performance from Live Aid, it showcase the best ones. This DVD focuses on unreleased songs from the London show including The Boomtown Rats, Status Quo, Syle Council, Nik Kershaw, Ultravox ("One Small Day"), Spandau Ballet ("We Are Virgin"), Sade ("Is It A Crime"), Sting ("Driven To Tears") and Phil Collins ("In The Air Tonight"). There's also a nice duet between the Sting and Collins with his "Long Way To Go". Quality wise, this the best footage I have ever seen from the Live Aid broadcast. The video is sourced from the original BBC broadcast and well preserved. The audio is from a BBC Radio stereo simulcast and excellent as well.
Quality Rating: Video A ; Audio A+- Unreleased Vol. 2 (PAL DVD). This DVD features performances leftover from both London and Philly including Bryan Ferry ("Sensation"), Bryan Adams, George Thorogood ("The Sky Is Crying"), Simple Minds ("Promised You A Miracle"), The Pretenders, Elton John, The Who, Kool & The Gang, Madonna, Tom Petty ("Rebels"), Rick Springfield ("Love Somebody"). This set shows why some performances may not have been included on the official release. For example, Bryan Ferry's mic was having issues during his set and the BBC blew a fuse during the Who's performance, leaving some of it simply unaired. As with the other DVDs in this collection, some songs are faded in or edited because of the way they were broadcast. However, quality is great throughout.
Quality Rating: Video A ; Audio A+- Unreleased Vol. 3 (PAL DVD). Some songs had to be faded in or are edited due to the way they were originally broadcast. As with Vol. 1, the quality is superb.

I always thought this was their best album and I especially liked their original bassist Muzz Skillings, who left shortly after this period. The video quality is excellent, while the sound could use more depth, but overall an enjoyable show. The roof even falls in towards the end of the show! The show runs about 90mins and includes all the essentials "Funny Vibe", "Middle Man", "New Jack Theme", "Someone Like You", "Type" and much more.
