Presto Tour
Title:
Mountain Views (DVD) Date: 6/27/90, Mountain View, CA Label: T&D Services Source: ProShot Quality Rating: B |
|
|
Description: Here is another in-house video feed from the Presto Tour. The quality here is pretty good, definitely a couple gens down, but watchable. The sound is right off the board, but unfortunately, a bit flat and in mono. Since it's an in-house feed you see all the videos and animation included for the show. When I see these arena shows from the 90's, it reminds me how much better they are now (2007). Recent tours have featured the band playing better than ever, more amphitheatres and longer shows with more varied setlists. Simply put, Rush are putting on much better shows these days. Still, no reason not to pick up this show if you're really into this tour. Otherwise, if you want to see some really great performances, I would suggest checking out the Vapor Trails, R30 or Arrows tours.

Description: Here is an in-house video feed from the Presto Tour...a rare find! The main issue here is the quality, which I believe was intentionally degraded because the hoarder of the master wants to do quality control over what's in circulation. Hopefully a better source will emerge one day (as did with "A View From The Palace", same venue on Counterparts tour). The video quality isn't all that bad, not great by any means, but watchable. The audio is okay here. If this had been a 1 cam audience show with the same sound I would probably skip over this one. However, what saves this release is that it's proshot. Yeah, the video quality is not on average with what's available but having multiple angles makes this, surprisingly, a very refreshing experience. If you're a fan of the Presto era you'll want this.

Description: Here's an excellent audience boot from the Presto tour. The is quite full and all instruments can be heard clearly. This may be the best audience recording of the tour in my opinion.

The Hartford '90 Date: 5/8/90, Hartford, CT Label: Digital Reproductions Source: Soundboard Quality Rating: A |

Description: This is an excellent soundboard recording from the Presto tour. The mix is not as full as you would hope, but it's still great to hear. A small part of "Force 10" is missing, that's the only flaw for this otherwise complete show. Highly recommended for fans.

A Pass Through Mountain View Date: 6/27/90, Mountain View, CA Label: Digital Reproductions Source: Soundboard Quality Rating: A- |

Description: This sounds like it could have been sourced from a pro-shot video...but nobody is certain. The sound is compressed into the mid ranges, so you don't get the full dynamic sound that is common with high quality boards, like "Mirrors", for instance. As a matter of fact, I would say the overall sound is pretty flat, making me think it's a pro-shot video feed more than anything else. While we don't get much in the low end, Geddy's voice is out there as well as the keyboards and certain percussion. It's the only known Presto soundboard and I would highly recommend it to any fan of this period. However, don't expect "Mirrors" or even "Animated"...it's more along the lines of "Critical Mass", although again, not as much on the low end.

Description: I'll admit, I'm not a huge fan of audience boots because, let's face it, they often just suck badly. However, every now and then a real gem pops out of nowhere such as this. As far as audience boots go, this is among Rush's best...definitely the best audience boot of this tour. One of the nice things about this boot is that you hear all the instruments fairly clearly, which sometimes gives it a soundboard feel if you're not paying too close attention. Highly Recommended.

That's Entertainment Remastered Date: 6/17/90, East Troy, WI Label: Unknown Source: Audience Quality Rating: A- |

Description: Listen to this bootleg at low to mid volume and you almost forget it's an audience recording. Really, for an audience boot, it is very good. You can hear Geddy's vocals clearly, the drums are evident (the bass drums really pound) while the guitar is a bit buried, but it's audible. This version is much improved over the regular version released on Prism originally. The speed problem has been corrected and the bonus tracks were taken from a much better souce. Plus, it's great to hear some songs that have never made it to the live albums, like "The Pass", "Scars", and "War Paint". If you're into their Presto phase, this is a good one to own.
